Dear Valued Customer:
The chemical giants’ bottom line just got a huge shot in the arm as Chem Data has acknowledged today that they have successfully implemented their second increase this year. It is a whopping 8 percent this time and is effective retroactively to February 1,2010 for everyone who makes polyethylene film.
Supposedly this increase, like the last, has been fueled by high feedstock costs and robust exports that have served to keep their inventories low. However, no one can adequately justify the magnitude of these combined increases except for the simple conclusion that they’re doing it because they can.
It looks like their strategy is to front load their profits early in the year before the massive capacity in both Asia and the Middle East comes on stream and takes away the one aspect of their business that has saved them during this recession; namely exports.
Unfortunately, with an increase of this magnitude, we have no choice but to pass it through without delay, effective with any shipments on or after March 15th. Your sales representatives will be in contact with you to answer any of your questions.
